LBEM 2024 Programme

Visit the University of Nottingham’s stands at this year’s event and you might be surprised to encounter some rather unusual guests alongside the more traditional human hosts – a trio of interactive robots. To showcase the university research sphere’s strong links with – and support for – businesses, there will be an opportunity to meet some of the impressive robots from the “Cobot Maker Space” facility, based at Jubilee Campus. This facility, a reconfigurable space for exploring how collaborative robots – or “cobots” - work with humans, specialises in sociotechnical research that addresses the connection between people, their personal data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) robots and autonomous systems. Spot, the robotic dog, and Robin, our helpful, humanoid robot, will both be in attendance showing off their skills, and visitors will be invited to try out a demo named ‘Driving by the Seat of your Pants’ to test their skills navigating a remotely operated robot. - all hailing from the Cobot Maker Space. Housed at the University of Nottingham Innovation Park (UNIP), the Cobot Maker Space is a dynamic environment that enables innovators and entrepreneurs to engage with research and deliver commercial outcomes for their businesses. The maker space is designed to investigate how products, services and technologies of the future can be engineered to deliver more personalised and intuitive experiences. It provides a unique asset to support the university’s work with business, especially given AI features in a wide range of university research activity. It is also part of the School of Computer Science, which is ranked 1st in the UK for its research environment. cobotmakerspace.org info@cobotmakerspace.org Take a tour of the Cobot Maker Space with Robin the humanoid robot Inspiring Business by Sharing Success 2024 30 I spiring Business by Sharing Success
